First time at the Lab?
All the info you could need!
What is Bouldering and how does it work?
Bouldering is a form of ropeless rock climbing! Our walls are 4.5 meters high at their tallest point and are surrounded by large squishy matting. So once your climbing shoes are on, you pick a boulder to climb and unlike rope climbing where the rope stops your fall, if you fall you land on our large safety mats at the bottom.
What to do before you arrive?
Before you arrive you can save a lot of time by filling out our Waiver (see button below!). Make sure to be wearing comfy clothes that you can be active in, and leave any rings or similar jewelry at home (You won’t be able to climb whilst wearing rings)
Is there an age limit?
Yes, All 3 facilities share an age limit of 12yrs plus, however Boulder Lab Clayton has a designated kids bouldering area, “Kinder Lab” This area is for those who are aged 5+
What do you do when you arrive?
Once you’ve arrived, chat to our friendly counter staff and they will check you into our system, and then give you a rundown of the facility that you are visiting followed by a safety briefing, an introduction to falling and a fall test. Don’t worry if you’ve never done any of these before, they are rather simple and you’ll be on the wall in no time!
If you have any further questions once you’ve finished your induction don’t hesitate to ask our staff and they’ll be happy to point you in the right direction or answer any questions!
What are the grades?
The grades are the difficulty of the climbs. At Boulder Lab we have 10 grades. 1-9 and a wildcard grade. Grade 1 is the easiest, think a ladder up the wall, whilst grade 9 is our most difficult grade. We ensure we have many boulders in all ranges, but especially in the range between 1 and 5 to ensure that first timers have plenty of stuff to climb! We also have Lab Experiment tags and Competition tags so if you’re feeling confident, try your luck on our un-graded boulders!
All participants must sign a waiver before climbing at Boulder Lab.
Please note, If you have filled in a waiver previously you do not need to fill it in again. Waivers only need to be filled in once per participant.
