Boulder Lab Youth Program

Bouldering is an engaging, social sport taking the world by storm.

Kids can’t stop climbing trees, furniture and just about everything they can get their hands on?

Or looking for a new sport that develops full-body strength, coordination and critical thinking?

The Youth Squad is an Over 12s program aimed at introducing kids of all backgrounds and abilities to bouldering. It is the next stop for graduates of the U12s program, and a selection ground for the Development and Senior Squads within each facility. With a structured learning curriculum alongside experienced coaches, youth program climbers learn everything from the fundamentals of climbing movement to problem solving to advanced competition climbing.

Bouldering is building the resilient, open minded and sport-loving kids of tomorrow!

With small class sizes, lots of hands-on fun, along with plenty of motivation and support come and see why climbing has become one of the most rapid growing sports today.

Classes run during the school term and break over the holidays.

We welcome all climbers from ages 12-19! If you have younger monkeys, our U12s program at Clayton is the perfect place for younger budding climbers. Exceptionally advanced young crushers may be accelerated into the youth squad on case-by-case approval.

Are they suitable for all skill levels?

Yes! Classes are suitable for all climbers from complete beginner to elite Aus-team members!

Do you need your own gear?

Whilst shoes are available for hire, it is strongly encouraged that all participants have their own. All youth members receive 10% off our pro store. A bag of chalk and a brush are also highly recommended!

What is involved in the classes?

There will be a strong focus on progression - all our classes are run by experienced coaches and will cover all aspects of climbing, from technique to training and competitions. There will be plenty of skills and drills learning, but also plenty of fun and games for everyone to discover and learn on the wall.

Do I have to do competitions?

Whilst there will be a strong focus on progression and development towards competition climbing, they are entirely optional. We do recommend everyone give it a go however, as they are a fantastic experience to try something new and meet other climbers of the same age. With Climbing now an Olympic sport it as a very exciting time to start climbing!

How many climbers are there in a class?

We limit the youth classes to 6 climbers with each coach, with a max class size of 12 climbers.
