Things to Cover during a Boulder Lab induction.
Soon we will have our induction video that all climbers will watch as a part of their waiver.
Can you please make sure that all climbers are getting to the top hold during their induction (feet on the purple holds)!
If they are nervous feel free for them to do a test fall from halfway and then going back up to the top.
Really important that we get all inductees to do the demo fall from the top.
Just to make sure you're not missing anything (and were all on the same page) safety-wise here is what I normally cover.
- when you're not climbing your off the Matting. Use the bench seats provided.
- don't climb directly next to each other, and make sure the boulder you choose doesn't intersect with a climb someone else is already on
- ensure you're not walking underneath people to get to the boulder you've chosen.
- before you start climbing make sure you aren't wearing any rings.
- boulders 3 and under don't go to the top. So start with them to get a feel for the height of the gym, Only climb to a height you feel comfortable falling from.
- when you do get to the top look for the white down climbing holds and use them to climb down a little bit lower before dropping and jumping off.
- when you jump off land feet shoulder-width apart, bend your knees and roll onto your back. Ensure that you cross your arms over chest and avoid putting your arms out to the sides or behind you.
- be aware that you can slip and take unexpected falls whilst climbing, if you do make sure to remember to tuck your arms, avoid putting them out to the side.
- Injuries can happen falling from any height, so always take care when falling
